Xi also praised Lee for reforming the District Council and completing the election smoothly while safeguarding national security over the past year.
"The SAR government has also helped Hong Kong to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic to embrace overall recovery," Xi added.
Xi also said the central government will continue the one country, two systems principle and maintain Hong Kong's capitalist system and lifestyle, as well as fully implement "patriots administering Hong Kong."
He continued: "We fully support the Chief Executive and the SAR government to unite the various sectors and seize the historical opportunities brought by national development to push Hong Kong development.
"The vitality and superiority of the one country, two systems principle will continue to emerge and we are confident in Hong Kong's bright future."
Lee thanked Xi for the central government's support and care for Hong Kong.
Lee said: "Over the past year, the SAR's economic activities have resumed to normal levels and society has remained stable."
Lee said Hong Kong will make use of its advantages and push the development of the Northern Metropolis, which connects to the Greater Bay Area.
The SAR will also enhance international cooperation and explore new markets.
Chinese Communist Party's General Office director Cai Qi, vice premier Ding Xuexiang and Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office director Xia Baolong also attended the meeting.
Lee will visit the HKMAO and other mainland authorities before returning to Hong Kong tomorrow.
An HKMAO spokesman said the adjustment shows that the central government attaches great importance to the Chief Executive's duty report and Hong Kong affairs, adding that the new arrangement will also facilitate the implementation of Beijing's overall jurisdiction over the SAR.
In the past, the city's leader would meet the president and premier separately during duty visits. But the new arrangement showcases Xi and the party's leadership role in Hong Kong and Macau affairs, said Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macau Studies consultant Lau Siu-kai.

Xi Jinping praised John Lee for his District Council reforms and the smooth election process while safeguarding national security.
