Transport in Paris will not be ready for the 2024 Olympic Games, its mayor Anne Hidalgo said, sparking anger yesterday from political opponents.
Paris is under pressure, with commuters and tourists complaining of poor transport frequency, hygiene and overcrowding.
Speaking on a TV talk show, Hidalgo said the Games infrastructure will be ready though "there are two things for which we will not be ready,"referring to transport and homelessness.
"We have problems in daily transport issues and we are still not reaching the level needed," she said.
Transport Minister Clement Beaune, a close ally of centrist President Emmanuel Macron, accused Hidalgo of not being present at committee meetings aimed at discussing transport infrastructure.
Valerie Pecresse, the head of the Ile-de-France region that includes Paris, vowed that they will be ready for the Games.
