Amazing hype for Hong Kong

Hong Kong's iconic skyline, the majestic Big Buddha, the rich heritage of Cantonese opera, and the thrilling Bun Scrambling Competition in Cheung Chau have all been showcased in the opening episode of popular US TV show The Amazing Race.

According to the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the city's vibrant culture and landmarks are set to captivate global audiences as the Emmy Award-winning reality series kicked off its highly anticipated 37th season.

The season premiere on Wednesday featured 14 teams embarking on a whirlwind adventure through Hong Kong.

With the support of HKTB, contestants faced unique challenges that highlight the city's cultural essence, including completing tasks at the Big Buddha to immersing themselves in Cantonese opera at the Xiqu Centre, and even participating in the exhilarating Bun Scrambling Competition in Cheung Chau.

The teams competed for the chance to continue their global journey and win the top prize of US$1 million (HK$7.8 million).

Bertram van Munster and Elise Doganieri, co-creators and executive producers of the show, expressed their enthusiasm for Hong Kong, which is the "right place" to start off the season. They added: "Hong Kong offers the perfect backdrop for The Amazing Race, with its high-energy atmosphere and diverse mix of modern and historical locations. We are thrilled to bring the excitement of the show to this vibrant city and showcase its iconic landmarks to audiences worldwide."

The show airs on CBS, which reaches over 95 percent of US households, and is available for streaming on Paramount+.

HKTB had also supported Japanese TV channel BS12 in producing a travel program, Next Trip, in Hong Kong.

It is hosted by Yumi Wakatsuki, a former member of popular Japanese idol group Nogizaka46.

During the program, Wakatsuki introduces viewers to several new art and cultural attractions in Hong Kong, such as M+, the Hong Kong Palace Museum and Tai Kwun in Central.

She then visits the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui to enjoy the iconic and dazzling night view of Victoria Harbour.
