Wong Tai Sin yesterday became the godfather to another 200 believers as people prayed for health and safety at the Taoist temple in Kowloon dedicated as to the popular deity.
In fact, it was due to the Covid pandemic limit on numbers that those 200 were all that were allowed into the Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple.
"Becoming godchildren of gods is a traditional folk custom of praying in China, and bonding with Wong Tai Sin is an important custom for believers in Hong Kong," temple leaders noted.
Believers knelt to Wong Tai Sin during the ceremony and heard about the master's "10 virtues" that include loyalty, benevolence, integrity and faith. Then amid the incense they received certificates to attest they had become godchildren of Wong Tai Sin, whose spirituality was carried to Hong Kong early in the 20th century from Xiqiao Mountain at Nanhai in Guangdong.
