The tragic death of former Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe has recalled memories for Hong Kong celebrity singer Agnes Chan Mei-ling and her Japanese husband, Tsutomu Kaneko.Abe, then 32, attended Chan and Tsutomu's wedding in Hong Kong on January 11, 1986. 
Abe, who was a classmate of Tsutomu in secondary school, was also a big fan of Chan's music in the 1970s when she recorded her first Japanese pop hit, Poppy Flower.

The couple arrived at the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception in a limousine surrounded by fans and illuminated by the flashes of cameras.
Abe stood by them in a tuxedo as they took their wedding vows. Abe was also present at Chan's 30th debut anniversary in 2003, just three years before he began his first term as Prime Minister of Japan in September 2006.
