Ronny Johnsen, a former Premier League player who played for Manchester United for six seasons, recently visited Hong Kong. Besides participating in the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s “JC School Football Development Scheme” events, he was also invited by the Club to enjoy horse races at Sha Tin Racecourse on Sunday.
Former Manchester United defender Ronny Johnsen brought star power to Hong Kong during his recent visit, where he engaged with young footballers and experienced the thrills of local horse racing.
Johnsen, who spent six seasons in the Premier League, participated in the event launched by the “JC School Football Development Scheme” of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) and attended a day at Sha Tin Racecourse as a guest.
He was accompanied by HKJC chief executive Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges and executive director of Sports Business Casper Stylsvig to the Parade Ring, where they observed horses up close before enjoying the races from the sidelines.
It was Johnsen’s first visit to the iconic racecourse. He praised the venue’s impressive scale, vibrant atmosphere, and diverse offerings that blend sport, entertainment, and dining. He described the horse racing as exciting and thrilling, highlighting the unique energy of the day.
The HKJC has been a driving force in local football development, partnering with Manchester United since 2013 to launch the "JC School Football Development Scheme." The initiative now reaches primary and secondary schools, kindergartens, and tertiary institutions, introducing new training models designed to inspire and encourage young athletes.
