A van crashed on the Island Eastern Corridor while heading toward Causeway Bay near the off-ramp to Hing Fat Street on Sunday morning, causing major traffic disruptions as hundreds of passengers left the buses and walked away from the scene.
At around 9.47am, the driver lost control of his van and crashed into the embankment before coming to a stop across the lanes, blocking the road. The driver reported no injuries in the crash.
The stalled vehicle left several buses stranded behind. Passengers had to get off and leave the scene on foot.
Photos circulated online showed large crowds of people walking along the corridor, with some netizens jokingly referring to the scene as the “Island Eastern Corridor Walks for Millions.”
Due to the accident, the Transport Department announced that the only traffic lane on the branch road from the Island Eastern Corridor towards Causeway Bay leading to Hing Fat Street had been closed. Drivers were advised to use alternative routes.
