Three men have been arrested following an assault and theft incident in Aberdeen early Sunday that began over an exchange of looks.
Police were called at around midnight by an 18-year-old Indian man who reported being robbed by several individuals on Nam Ning Street, suffering the loss of several thousand dollars in cash and an electronic device.
Officers arriving at the scene later arrested a 19-year-old Pakistani man working as a courier on suspicion of robbery.
Investigations revealed the victim was waiting for a taxi at a rest area when a dispute with three men over "eye contact" escalated. He was punched, sustaining injuries to his face and hands, and had HK$5,000 in cash and AirPods stolen.
The victim, conscious, was taken to Queen Mary Hospital for treatment.
Following further investigation, the case was reclassified as "common assault" and "theft." Police later arrested the initially detained 19-year-old for common assault. Two more Pakistani men, aged 19 and 21, were also arrested on suspicion of common assault. The 21-year-old is additionally suspected of theft for allegedly stealing the victim's belongings.
All three, who are friends and did not know the victim, are being detained. The case is being followed up by the Western district anti-triad unit.
