61-year-old man arrested over false $14,000 robbery report in Hung Hom

A 61-year-old man was arrested on Friday (Feb 6) after police determined that a reported robbery in a Hung Hom pedestrian tunnel was fabricated.

Police said the man called officers at 7.16am claiming he was attacked by two men and robbed of about HK$14,000 in cash while passing through a pedestrian tunnel by Winslow Street Playground.

The case was initially handled by the Kowloon City district crime squad. However, after preliminary investigation, officers suspected the report was false.

The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing wasteful employment of the police and is being detained for further enquiries.

Police said they are continuing to investigate his motive for making the false claim.
