$570,000 of cannabis products seized in Sai Kung, driver arrested

Police have seized HK$570,000 worth of suspected cannabis products during a vehicle check in Sai Kung and arrested the driver.

Officers from the Kowloon East tactical unit were conducting a roadblock on Tai Mong Tsai Road near Yan Yee Road around 9pm on Tuesday when they stopped a suspicious light goods vehicle.

A search uncovered 335 packets of suspected cannabis weighing about 3.7 kilograms, 15 suspected cannabis cigarettes, 86 suspected cannabis oil vapes, and 33 suspected "drug stamps."

Following a preliminary investigation, the 35-year-old Mok surnamed male driver was arrested on suspicion of "trafficking in dangerous drugs." He is being detained.

The case has been taken over by Wong Tai Sin district's criminal investigation team. Police reiterated that drug trafficking is a serious offence, with a maximum penalty of a HK$5 million fine and life imprisonment.
