A 21-year-old university student has reported a sportswear store in Mong Kok to police after allegedly having the curtain to her changing room opened twice while she was trying on trousers, once by an employee.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at a branch of a chain sportswear store in Langham Place. In a social media post, the student said she was first disturbed when two male customers speaking Mandarin abruptly pulled the curtain open while she was in the changing room.
After confronting them outside, she felt surrounded and stared at by the customers and a male staff member, as if being pressured to leave. She then returned to change back into her clothes, securing the curtain. However, the male staff member allegedly pulled the curtain open again while she was removing her trousers.
She criticized the staff member for knowingly opening the curtain without apology, even though she was clearly still changing. She complained to the store manager, who reportedly said "sorry, we will train the staff," but then adopted a dismissive attitude, making her feel blamed. She left the store and called police.
Police confirmed receiving a report from the woman at around 6.05pm, involving a male staff member aged about 20. After officers investigated, the woman indicated she would follow up through customer service channels. The case was classified as a "dispute."
The post sparked widespread discussion online. Many criticized the store's management and the lack of privacy with only a curtain. Some questioned if the actions constituted deliberate peeking.
The student later updated her post, noting the staff member involved was still working the next day. She tagged the store's official account demanding an explanation, fueling further public calls for the brand to respond formally.
