A customer bought a “Rich Milk Toast” from a Maxim's Cakes outlet in Sai Wan Ho last month. While eating breakfast, a family member noticed a suspicious black object after a few bites.
Once it was clear the item did not belong to anyone present, the family reported the incident to the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) and submitted the foreign object for laboratory testing.
The poster described the discovery as “disgusting,” noting the affected family member “vomited all day” and now feels nauseous at the sight of bread, vowing never to buy Maxim’s products again.
After more than a month of waiting, the complainant updated social media today with the official result: a government laboratory report confirmed the object was a piece of decayed human tooth.
Maxim's Cakes replied it recently received a customer complaint about an alleged foreign object found in a purchased milk toast. It is deeply concerned about this incident. As the FEHD's investigation is still underway, it is fully cooperating with the authorities to ensure a thorough understanding and resolution of this matter.
The bakery stressed it prioritizes customer trust and satisfaction, consistently upholding our commitment to food hygiene and quality. Throughout the entire food production and packaging process, all staff are required to wear masks and hair covers, and to don full-body protective clothing. The production lines are equipped with advanced detection equipment to ensure that all products meet food safety standards. Each product is properly sealed in a transparent bag before being shipped to the store. It is committed to continuous improvement on product safety and quality.
