Hong Kong police intercepted a large shipment of suspected drugs at the airport, arresting a 39-year-old Pakistani man on Tuesday evening (Jan 21).
Acting on intelligence, officers from the District Anti-Triad Squad (Western District) conducted a joint operation with other departments at the airport arrival hall. Authorities found a large quantity of suspected ecstasy in the man’s luggage, with an estimated street value of HK$7.6 million.
In total, about 76,000 suspected ecstasy pills were seized from two suitcases. Officers also discovered 371 undeclared cigarettes, valued at around HK$2,000, with a duty payable of approximately HK$1,290. The luggage and other evidence were confiscated.
The man is currently in police custody, facing charges of drug trafficking and violations of the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance.
Police are investigating the source and destination of the drugs and have not ruled out further arrests.
