The department said it will consult the industry on the proposed certification framework in the first quarter of the year, with the scheme expected to be rolled out in the second quarter. A formal brand launch event is planned for mid-year.
The initiative is intended to encourage greater adoption of local products by wholesalers, retailers, hotels, and the catering sector.
AFCD said the new brand will provide clearer product identification and traceability, helping consumers better recognize locally produced agricultural and fisheries goods while supporting the long-term development of the local industry.
Meanwhile, a three-day outdoor farmers' market, known as FarmFest 2026, opened on Friday at Fa Hui Park in Mong Kok. The event is jointly organized by AFCD, the Vegetable Marketing Organization, and the Fish Marketing Organization.
About 430 booths are participating in the carnival, with around 60 percent selling local agricultural and fisheries products.
These include newly developed items created through collaboration between the department and the industry, such as siu mai made from locally farmed bighead carp and fresh fish luncheon meat.
The market also features a range of specialty local farm produce, including hydroponically grown cherry tomatoes and kale, as well as locally farmed fish such as leopard coral grouper and tilapia.
In addition, agriculture and fisheries exhibition zones have been set up to showcase the application of new technologies in the sector.
Demonstrations include vertical aeroponic farming systems and container-based ecological aquaculture systems, highlighting how innovation is being used to support sustainable local food production.
