Starry Lee elected president of Legislative Council in tight race against Ronick Chan

Veteran lawmaker Starry Lee Wai-king has been elected as the president of the eighth Legislative Council. 

The election took place on Thursday, where Lee, a member of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, secured 47 votes against her challenger Ronick Chan Chun-ying, who garnered 42 votes—a narrow margin of just five votes.

During the voting process, one ballot from each candidate was initially flagged for examination due to uneven ink printing. However, ballot supervisors determined that the voters' intentions were clear, validating the votes.

Prior to the election, a special forum took place at 9.30am -- which included a question-and-answer session aimed at addressing concerns from the council members ahead of the voting.
