Hong Kong Bar Association to hold leadership election on Jan 22

The Hong Kong Bar Association is set to hold its leadership election on January 22, with incumbent chairman José Antonio Maurellet expected to be re-elected as he faces no challengers for the position.

Members of the association have been informed that the election will take place at 6pm at the United Centre in Admiralty.

While chairman Maurellet and vice-chairman Martin Hui Siu-ting and Eva Sit Yat-wah are anticipated to retain their positions, some roles within the current council may see changes.

Among the potential shifts, deputy honorary secretary Martin Wong Wing-hoi is running for the positions of honorary secretary and treasurer, succeeding Eugene Yim Wing-tsang, while Alexander Tang Kin-man is vying for the role of deputy honorary secretary.

A star-studded team has nominated Maurellet and his slate, including former chairman Edward Chan King-sang, the third Secretary for Justice of Hong Kong, Rimsky Yuen Kwok-keung, as well as senior counsel Graham Harris.
