HK records over 225,000 border crossings on New Year’s morning

A total of 225,000 inbound and outbound passenger trips were recorded as of 10am on New Year’s Day across various border checkpoints, according to the Immigration Department.

Among these, about 113,000 were departures, with approximately 64,600 Hong Kong residents and 38,000 mainland visitors leaving the city.

For the 111,000 arrivals, around 47,000 were Hong Kong residents, and 57,000 were mainland visitors.

The department also noted that approximately 38,000 passengers entered and exited through Hong Kong International Airport, including about 24,000 departures, making it the busiest border point.

The airport’s departure figures included around 15,000 Hong Kong residents and 3,055 mainland visitors.

Both the Lo Wu and Shenzhen Bay border crossings also reported high traffic, with over 30,000 people passing through each port.
