As the eighth-term Legislative Council prepares to be sworn in on New Year’s Day, veteran politician Starry Lee Wai-king -- a leading contender for the LegCo presidency -- said the position awaits the decision of the new lawmakers.
Lee downplayed speculation regarding her bid, noting the situation will become clear once the new session begins.
Acknowledging high public expectations for the new LegCo, she emphasized the importance of uniting legislators to align with national strategies and assist the government in effective governance.
Although she serves on the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee alongside her role as a Hong Kong lawmaker, Lee dismissed any concerns about potential conflicts, highlighting shared responsibilities and interests.
Recently attending the 19th session of the 14th NPC Standing Committee, Lee described the agenda as substantial, with a review of 14 laws, including legislation on the safety management of hazardous chemicals, the Fisheries Law, and the Civil Aviation Law.
