The competition, which runs through December 5 at both Top Bowl and Queen Elizabeth Stadium, marks the first time the men’s and women’s world bowling championships are being staged in Hong Kong.
Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui said it was an honor for the city to host the event, noting Hong Kong had earlier welcomed the IBF World Cup and IBF Para World Championships in January.
More than 15 elite men’s and women’s teams will compete across five disciplines, showcasing their skills on the international stage.
Vivien Lau Chiang-chu, chairwoman of the Hong Kong China Tenpin Bowling Congress, said overseas teams are covering their own lodging and meals, while also spending locally, which is expected to generate millions in economic benefits for the city.
The tournament is also an “M” Mark event – marking a major international sports event in the city.
