Man arrested after assaulting police officer during Mong Kok drug bust

A 48-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a police officer and drug possession during an operation in Mong Kok on Sunday evening.

South New Territories Police Force officers stopped the suspicious man at the intersection of Tong Mi Road and Argyle Street around 6pm. The suspect resisted arrest and pushed a female officer to the ground during the confrontation before being subdued.

Police subsequently found approximately 3.43 grams of suspected heroin, 0.88 grams of suspected cocaine, one suspected etomidate-containing e-cigarette cartridge, one e-cigarette device and one syringe in the man's possession.

The surnamed Cheng suspect was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing instruments fit for drug use. He remains in custody while the case is handled by Mong Kok district crime squad.

The injured officer sustained hand injuries and was taken to Kwong Wah Hospital in conscious condition.
