Kind-hearted cabbie spends 45 minutes helping lost dementia grandpa get home

A taxi driver’s simple act of patience and compassion has warmed hearts across Hong Kong after he spent nearly an hour on Friday night driving an elderly passenger with suspected dementia around Ho Man Tin until the man finally remembered his family’s phone number and was safely returned home.

Posting on social media, the driver explained how the grandfather initially couldn’t recall his address when he got in the cab, leaving the driver worried he might have to call police.

Instead of giving up, he calmly toured familiar streets with the elderly man until his memory sparked, contacted the relieved family, and dropped him off safe and sound on Man Yun Road.

The driver used the experience to urge everyone to look out for older residents, especially those with cognitive issues, and suggested families place a card or tag with emergency contact details around their loved ones’ necks so good Samaritans can help them home quickly.
