All 161 candidates validly nominated for LegCo election: Eric Chan

A total of 161 candidates were determined to be validly nominated for the 2025 Legislative Council (LegCo) General Election, according to Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan Kwok-ki.

Regarding several candidates promoting their candidate numbers before the completion of the eligibility review, Chan stated that there is no strict sequence between the drawing of lots and the eligibility review.

He noted that in the previous election, the drawing of lots was conducted first, followed by the announcement of the eligibility review results.

He also explained that the early drawing of lots was intended to allow candidates to begin their election preparations as soon as possible, such as by drafting campaign materials in advance to save time.

However, candidates had been reminded that it is advisable not to promote their candidate numbers before the review results are announced.

Separately, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Erick Tsang Kwok-wai said that the government will host 39 election forums, starting from Tuesday (Nov 11).

The forums will cover the Election Committee constituency, 10 geographical constituencies, and 28 functional constituencies. They will include candidate self-introductions, mobilization of campaign teams, Q&A sessions, and discussions on specific issues.
