Local climbing brand JUST CLIMB unveiled the city’s biggest covered climbing facility on Friday at Kai Tak Sports Park, featuring four state-of-the-art walls—including a 17.5-meter lead wall and an Olympic-standard 15-meter speed wall—designed to welcome everyone from beginners to elite athletes.
Nestled along Kai Tak Sports Avenue next to the Kai Tak Sports Arena, the new venue spans the largest indoor climbing area in Hong Kong. Co-founder and managing director Cherry Kwan Cheuk-yu explained that the walls cater to all skill levels, from auto-belay setups for newcomers to advanced lead routes for seasoned climbers.
The team plans to roll out classes, competitions, and corporate events to turn climbing into an accessible urban sport.
She aims to reach children, teens, and underrepresented groups to foster inclusion while balancing business growth with community outreach, injecting fresh energy into Hong Kong’s climbing scene and the broader sports industry.
Fellow co-founder and former Hong Kong climbing team member Danny Ho said the goal is to deliver world-class, safety-first experiences right in the community.
Kai Tak Sports Park, a cornerstone of the city’s athletic future, made the dream of building the largest indoor facility possible.
He described climbing as a full-body and mind workout that demands coordination, observation, and strategy, evolving from a niche pursuit into a popular way to stay fit and relieve stress.
He hopes more residents, especially the younger generation, will discover personal breakthroughs on the wall.
Kai Tak Sports Park CEO John Sharkey called the gym a perfect fit for the park’s mission to blend community, culture, and sport. It lets people of all ages enjoy safe, professional climbing and weaves exercise seamlessly into daily life.
The opening ceremony featured Hong Kong sport climbing representatives Au Chi-fung and Wong Kwing-fai racing up the 15-meter speed wall in mere seconds, touching the buzzer at the top in a dramatic Olympic-style demo.
JUST CLIMB coaches and young students then showcased lead climbing on the 17.5-meter wall, highlighting the sport’s appeal across generations.
The lineup includes the 17.5-meter lead wall for tactical and endurance training, the competition-grade 15-metre speed wall, a 10-meter top-rope wall for learning rope skills, and an 8-meter auto-belay wall for safe, supervised first climbs.
