Hong Kong sailor Nicholas Bezy Halliday has won the first gold medal for Hong Kong at the 15th National Games on Wednesday (Oct 29).

The 26-year-old, who competes in Men's ILCA 7 at the Games, finished fourth in the 11th round of the second stage this afternoon. After deducting his worst finish, he secured the gold medal with a net score of 33 points.
After completing 10 rounds on Tuesday (Oct 28), Halliday topped the standings with a net score of 29 points, six points ahead of the second-place sailor from Zhejiang.
This means that a top-six finish in the final round for Halliday will secure him the gold 4medal, and he successfully achieved his goal, finishing fourth in the final round.

Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui extended heartfelt congratulations to Halliday and his coaching team on clutching the Hong Kong's first gold medal at the 15th National Games.
"This is a demonstration of his strength and perseverance. All Hong Kong people, like myself, are proud of his achievement," Law added.
Halliday will be receiving HK$750,000 cash incentives under the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme, which HKJC sponsors the Hong Kong Sports Institute to provide cash awards to local athletes who excel in major sporting events.
