The Smart Logistics Datathon 2025 launched on Friday at the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy, bringing together students from Hong Kong, mainland China, Asia, and Australia to compete in a 35-hour challenge to devise innovative data-driven solutions for the logistics industry.
Organized by the Asian Institute of Supply Chains & Logistics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and supported by the Logistics Promotion Funding Scheme under the Maritime and Aviation Training Fund, the event attracted university and secondary school students eager to tackle real-world logistics challenges.
Participants will analyze big data over a nonstop 35-hour period, proposing creative solutions to enhance logistics operations, services, or business models.
Awards for champion, first runner-up, and second runner-up will be presented in both the university and secondary school categories.
At the opening ceremony, Kevin Choi Kit-ming, Permanent Secretary for Transport and Logistics, expressed enthusiasm for the diverse participation, noting the competition’s role in nurturing creative and forward-thinking talent to advance Hong Kong’s logistics sector.
He highlighted how the event connects academic learning with industry needs, allowing students to apply data analytics to solve practical problems and contribute to a smarter, greener, and more innovative logistics future.
During a welcome party, Choi engaged with participants, encouraging them to consider careers in the logistics industry, which he described as a vital driver of Hong Kong’s economy.
To prepare students, the organizers arranged pre-competition activities, including site visits and industry-sharing sessions, to deepen participants’ understanding of Hong Kong’s logistics sector and its ongoing shift toward digitalization and modernization.
The datathon offers a platform for young innovators to explore how data-driven technologies can transform the industry, aligning with Hong Kong’s vision to remain a global logistics hub.
