The two-and-a-half-minute video, filmed near the checkout counters, begins with a middle-aged woman in a pink top — nicknamed by netizens as the “AEON auntie” — lifting a local woman’s shopping trolley and toppling it over, sending vegetables and groceries spilling across the floor.

The “auntie,” speaking in Putonghua, then tries to walk away, but the younger woman, visibly upset, follows her.
The situation escalates as both accuse each other of starting the fight.
“You hit me first!” the older woman shouts, while pushing and kicking at her opponent before turning to a staff member and insisting, “She’s crazy — she hit me!”
The younger woman retaliates, shoving the trolley back toward the “auntie,” prompting staff to step in. “Don’t do that — you might hurt someone,” one male employee says as he tries to separate the pair.
Eventually, several staff members escort the Putonghua-speaking woman away, while the younger shopper stays behind, still furious.
“She started it! She knocked over all my things — and you’re scolding me?” she protests, as staff explain she had just swung her grocery bag during the chaos.
“Check the CCTV! She hit me first,” the woman demands, her voice echoing through the aisles. After a few more heated exchanges, the situation calms down and staff begin clearing the groceries scattered on the floor.
Netizens cry foul over AEON staff response
While the supermarket drama has amused many online, public reaction was far from unanimous.
Countless commenters blasted the older woman’s behaviour as “shameless” and “aggressive,” while others accused AEON staff of bias for “escorting the auntie out” instead of holding her accountable.
“Why was the one who fought back the only person stopped?” one comment read. Another joked, “Apparently whoever shouts louder gets to leave first.” Others lamented, “The staff handled it terribly — several men surrounded the local girl while the auntie just walked away.”
Despite the viral frenzy, AEON hasn’t responded yet, but Hongkongers are already treating the supermarket showdown like prime-time entertainment — complete with memes, debates, and plenty of armchair referees weighing in on who really threw the first punch.
