The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui, has suggested introducing Cantopop elements into local martial arts, referencing South Korea's approach of combining Taekwondo with K-pop.
The tourism chief made these remarks after attending the first Korean Consul General Cup Taekwondo Championship on Monday (Oct 7), the kick-off event for the 15th edition of Festive Korea.
According to Law’s social media post, Law was particularly impressed by the K-pop elements incorporated into the sport's performance by the Korean national team.
She suggested that Hong Kong follow this innovative example by combining Cantopop with martial arts performance.
Over 442 athletes from Korea and Hong Kong competed during the event at Southorn Stadium, some of whom were teenagers and children.
Additionally, she highlighted that Festive Korea coincides with Hong Kong Week 2025@Seoul, a vibrant showcase of Hong Kong's dynamic arts scene that facilitates cultural exchange and fosters friendship between the two regions.
