The Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Frederick Ma Si-hang, has emphasized that Hong Kong continues to attract substantial investments from mainland China, Europe, America, and other parts of the world, despite significant global shifts triggered by former U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of reciprocal tariffs.
Speaking at a forum organized by the Certified Practising Accountant Australia, Ma acknowledged that these changes have profoundly impacted the world, including Hong Kong, but noted that the city's financial markets remain vibrant with incoming funds from diverse global sources.
Ma provided an update on upcoming events planned by the HKTDC, including the Asian Financial Forum scheduled for January next year and a summit with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) set for June.
These gatherings will invite representatives from the Middle East and ASEAN countries to Hong Kong, aiming to showcase the city's role as a super-connector in international business and finance.
By facilitating these high-level discussions, Hong Kong positions itself as a key hub for fostering economic ties across regions.
He also reflected on a recent Belt and Road Summit held in Hong Kong last week, which drew representatives from over 70 countries and regions.
Ma highlighted that ASEAN has become Hong Kong's largest trading partner, underscoring the growing importance of these relationships.
Furthermore, collaborations between Hong Kong and the Middle East are intensifying, while mainland China has announced tariff exemptions for several African nations.
In Ma's view, these developments illustrate China's stabilizing influence on the global stage, contributing to economic stability and cooperation worldwide.
