A 37-year-old woman died early Saturday morning after her private sedan collided with a medium-sized truck in Ta Kwu Ling.
The fatal accident occurred around 4am today near 150 Man Kam To Road.
According to preliminary reports, the woman was driving toward the border checkpoint, possibly on her way home, when she failed to brake in time and crashed into the rear of a stationary truck in the slow lane.
The impact caused the front of her car to wedge under the truck, shattering the windshield and deploying the airbag, which was later found stained with blood.
The driver sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
No skid marks were observed at the site, suggesting the car did not brake before the collision.
Emergency responders extracted the woman from the wreckage, but she could not be saved.
The New Territories North Traffic Department’s Special Investigation Team is investigating the incident.
Authorities are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact investigators on 3661 3800.
