Emergency repair operations were initiated immediately, including deploying vacuum trucks to remove the overflowing sewage and using barriers for flood control. The issue had been put to an end by around 3pm.
The Environmental Protection Department stated that the water quality in the Shing Mun River remained within normal parameters throughout the incident, and that they are closely monitoring the situation.
The pipeline has been in operation for over 40 years and underwent a routine inspection in 2021, during which no issues were reported.
