The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) will issue the Standby Signal, No. 1 on Wednesday morning (August 13) as Tropical Cyclone Podul moves within 800 kilometres of the city.
The weather watchdog said its outer subsiding air will bring hot weather to Guangdong during the day tomorrow, with heat-triggered showers expected later in the day.
Podul is forecast to make landfall between eastern Guangdong and southern Fujian on Thursday (August 14), bringing its associated rain bands close to the Guangdong coast.
As a result, Hong Kong will experience squally heavy showers and thunderstorms, along with swells, throughout Thursday.
The Observatory has warned that depending on Podul’s proximity to the Pearl River Estuary, its intensity, and changes in local wind conditions, it may consider issuing higher Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals from late tomorrow into early Thursday.
Residents are urged to stay updated with the latest weather advisories and take necessary precautions as the situation develops.
