Growing up in Hong Kong and studying in the UK before returning to the city to participate in the Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP) project, a documentary featuring Janice Lau -- the architect who led the design of Kai Tak Stadium -- was featured on Tuesday.
The documentaries showcased the multiple perspectives of the Park, exploring the critical people and events behind this significant milestone, allowing the community to participate in the vision from the former Kai Tak Airport to its gradual transformation into Hong Kong's main event venue.
Sentiment to the city
For Lau, the KTSP project transcends architectural design; it represents an opportunity to give back to the city of her upbringing.
"I hoped to bring back what I learned to Hong Kong and contribute to the city where I was born and raised."
She has been involved in the Kai Tak Stadium project from its initial planning phases through to its construction. Commuting to work by ferry every day, she observes the site taking shape as her design is turning into reality.
"As an architect who was born and raised here and who's been involved in this project from start to finish, it means a lot to me."
She anticipated that KTSP would become a major driving force for culture and sports in the future. "I truly believed it will impact many people, not just us or the users, so I want to give it my all and do everything I can to make it perfect."
"This project isn't just a landmark. It's our way of paying tribute to Hong Kong, the city known as the 'Pearl of the Orient.'"
