During the trip, InvestHK’s Senior Vice President for Sustainability, Olivia To, met with key stakeholders in London and Cambridge, including renewable energy firms, sustainable investment managers, and innovation accelerators. Discussions were centered around collaboration opportunities in clean energy, new materials, and digital technologies.
A highlight of the visit was To’s speech at the "Powering Tomorrow: Deep Tech Innovations for a Sustainable Energy Future" conference in Cambridge, co-hosted by the University of Cambridge and Full Vision Capital. The event saw over 30 startups showcasing cutting-edge green solutions, with the winner of the TERA-Award receiving a $1 million prize to advance sustainable energy innovations.
To highlighted Hong Kong’s role as a global financial and green tech hub, offering UK companies access to Asian markets through initiatives like the Green Tech Fund and the Hong Kong Science Park’s GreenTech Hub. She mentioned that Hong Kong serves as the ideal gateway for UK firms to expand their green innovations across Asia.
UK partners expressed their appreciation for the collaboration. Alan Chan, Executive Chairman of the TERA-Award, commended InvestHK for its support in building a global green tech ecosystem. James Cole from the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership noted the shared commitment to fostering deep-tech solutions for a greener future.
Hong Kong is advancing its sustainability goals, targeting carbon neutrality by 2050 and promoting electric vehicles—with 70% of new private cars registered in 2024 being electric. The city is also investing in hydrogen energy and green maritime fuels.
This visit underscores Hong Kong’s push for international partnerships to tackle climate challenges, inviting UK innovators to leverage its financial and technological strengths for a sustainable future.
