The Observatory has issued the Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal at 3.30 pm, replacing the Red alert that was hoisted for nearly three hours.
The Red Rainstorm signal was issued at 12:40pm, marking the second issuance within a single day and just two hours after the forecaster replaced the previous one with the Amber one at 10.40am.
The Observatory said the remnant of Tropical Storm Danas is now moving southwestwards across eastern Guangdong and may then skirt the vicinity of Dongguan to Huizhou. There will be torrential rain and squally thunderstorms over the region.
It added that the rainfall exceeded 70 millimeters over Lamma Island, the southern part of Lantau Island and the Southern District of Hong Kong Island.
All afternoon schools suspended today
The Education Bureau announced that all PM schools are suspended this afternoon. Classes of all-day schools, including secondary schools, primary schools, special schools, kindergartens will also be suspended on Friday (Jul 11).
Regarding the scheduled registration for students at their allocated secondary schools on Thursday and Friday, the Bureau reminded parents not to report on Friday due to safety concerns.
The registration originally scheduled for Friday will be postponed to next Monday, while the arrangement for Thursday remains unchanged.
Parents unable to register in person or through an authorized representative are advised to contact the allocated school or the Education Bureau's School Places Allocation Section for alternative arrangements.
Additionally, child care centre services under the Social Welfare Department, services under the Neighbourhood Support Child Care Project, and after-school care programmes for pre-primary or primary school children will remain closed on Friday.
