The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mable Chan, recently met with Guy Platten, the Secretary General of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), and his designated successor, Thomas Kazakos, to finalize the arrangements for the upcoming Global Maritime Trade Summit.

This event, co-hosted by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government and the ICS, is scheduled to take place during the Hong Kong Maritime Week in November of this year.
Chan expressed the government's appreciation for its strong partnership with the ICS and the global maritime industry. She emphasized Hong Kong’s commitment to free trade and a level playing field for businesses, stating that the government is dedicated to leveraging Hong Kong's status as an international maritime center to ensure the success of the event.
The upcoming summit aims to strengthen the vision of a connected, efficient, and resilient maritime ecosystem that benefits the global maritime community.
Platten highlighted the challenges posed by rising geopolitical tensions and increasing fragmentation in global trade patterns. He noted that hosting the forum in Hong Kong, a pivotal global trade hub, provides a unique opportunity for industry leaders and policymakers to enhance their understanding of global trade benefits and opportunities.
He expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with the government to make this second summit a significant event for advancing global understanding.
The first summit, which took place during the Hong Kong Maritime Week in November 2024, saw participation from foreign government ministers, leaders of international organizations, and prominent figures from the maritime industry.
The event set a high standard for fostering international dialogue on critical issues in global trade and shipping, as well as exploring innovative solutions to pressing challenges in the industry.
The Transport and Logistics Bureau is committed to working closely with the ICS in the upcoming months to ensure the successful realization of the second summit. Further details about the event will be announced in due course.
