Diocesan Boys' School, located in Mong Kok, has officially commenced the construction of a long-anticipated 32-meter staircase that will connect the Mong Kok East MTR Station to its campus.
The staircase has been designed with a riser height of 28 centimeters to ensure stability for users. The entryway will feature a division, with the left side designated for secondary school access and the right side allocated for primary school access.
Alumnus and lawmaker Michael Tien Pauk-sun inspected the construction progress along with the principal.
After a 15-year wait, the new staircase is projected to open in July. However, Tien indicated that he is negotiating with the school to potentially advance the opening date to late May.
While Tien expressed concerns regarding the project's adherence to the timeline—given that only five to six weeks remain until the end of May—an engineer involved in the project expressed confidence in the current developmental progress.
The engineer indicated that the concrete steps would be constructed in four phases, each estimated to last approximately one week, thereby ensuring the timely completion of the project.
