American YouTuber 'IShowSpeed' was swarmed by over a hundred fans in Hong Kong's MTR system on Friday, causing chaos and damage, and prompting police intervention.
The social media star, who has 37.7 million followers on YouTube, was in Hong Kong to experience local customs and sightseeing, including a visit to the pandas at Ocean Park.
The day took a hectic turn when 'IShowSpeed,' after dangerously leaning out of a tram on Hong Kong Island with a toy sword to interact with passengers on another tram, boarded the MTR at Sheung Wan station heading towards Tin Hau.
His presence attracted a massive crowd of fans, resulting in a chaotic scene where an exit gate was reportedly damaged, prompting MTR staff to call the police for assistance.
During a live stream of the event on YouTube, 'IShowSpeed' was seen being closely guarded by bodyguards who formed a human chain to keep fans at bay while repeatedly shouting "move!"
While waiting for the train at the platform, the area became so overcrowded that fans sang loudly around him, causing the YouTuber to yell "shut up!"
Upon boarding a train bound for Chai Wan, the situation escalated as fans inside the train cheered loudly and tried to push forward for photos, only to be sternly blocked by his bodyguards.
The chaos continued as the train approached Central Station, where fans outside the train surged forward in a disorderly manner. Upon arriving at Tin Hau station, 'IShowSpeed' and his bodyguards disembarked, but some fans behaved uncontrollably, running up the escalators the wrong way and jumping over turnstiles to leave the station.
The police reported that at 3:46 pm, they were notified by MTR staff at Tin Hau station about the gathering of fans caused by the famous YouTuber's presence, which led to severe congestion in the lobby and on the platform.
Even after the YouTuber had left the station, many fans remained, necessitating police intervention.
The incident is currently under investigation by the MTR and local news outlets.
