Legislative Council president Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen said the SAR government should be more sensitive in grasping public sentiment, calling on authorities to adopt a down-to-earth approach to address citizens' concerns, break free from old constraints, and boldly push for reforms.
His comments came as Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu and top government officials joined a Lunar New Year luncheon hosted at the legislature.
Speaking at the luncheon, Leung said this year marks the final year of the current Legislative Council term, emphasizing the importance of enhancing quantity, speed, efficiency and quality to support the government in swiftly implementing development plans beneficial for Hong Kong's reform.
He noted that over the past three years, the Legislative Council has passed 84 bills, with approximately 40 more bills slated for review before the end of the term, nearly half the total number of bills reviewed in the past three years.
The total number of bills passed in the current Legislative Council term is also expected to exceed that of the previous term by at least 20 percent during the same period, Leung added.
Meanwhile, the LegCo chief expressed hopes for the upcoming budget to introduce measures that attract talent and funds to Hong Kong.
