The largest residential care home for the elderly in the city is expected to begin operations in March 2027 and offer 1,400 beds, according to Pok Oi Hospital Board chairman Danny Chau Chun-tat.
Located at Lam Tei in Tuen Mun, Chau said the facility is expected to begin construction early next year, with completion anticipated in 2026.
About 65 percent of the beds will be government-subsidized places, and 29 percent are nursing home places.
Chau added that the care home would require at least 300 nursing staff upon full operation, with plans to import foreign labor to fill some positions.
He also revealed that the new facility will feature advanced technologies, including smart management systems and a one-stop integrated medical service designed to minimize hospital visits and infection risks.
The one-stop integrated medical service will offer both traditional Chinese and Western medicine, as well as dental services and different kinds of therapies.
The facility will start accepting applications after obtaining its occupation permit in June 2026, aiming for an official opening in March 2027.
