The SAR government is mulling a second diagonal crossing in Hong Kong, with an intersection in Tsim Sha Tsui chosen for trial.
The city’s first diagonal crossing at the junction of Sha Kok Street and Yat Tai Street made its debut in January, allowing pedestrians to legally cross the busy intersection in Sha Tin in any direction.
The government said on Friday that another pedestrian scramble in Tsim Sha Tsui, at the intersection of Granville Road and Carnarvon Road, is expected to be launched by the middle of the year.
The Transport Department said in the first three months of the Sha Tin trial, over half of the pedestrians had chosen to cross the junction diagonally during peak hours.
It said the diagonal crossing saved about 14 seconds for pedestrians crossing the junction and that the flow of vehicle traffic remained smooth.
