Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL) is committed to serving the community while bringing joy to all.
As part of its ongoing community outreach initiatives, HKDL is kicking off its largest toy donation drive. Through donations to numerous charitable organizations in Hong Kong, HKDL continues its tradition of helping those in need to spread the magic of the holidays.
Ramping up outreach efforts
The resort firmly believes in the power of play and its ability to spark children's creativity. As such, it revived its “Give a Toy, Share the Love” Christmas Toy Donation drive as part of Disney's Ultimate Toy Drive program.
Through the drive, over 60,000 toys worth approximately HK$13 million were donated to 25 non-profit organizations. Beneficiaries included The Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association, The Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Children's Hospital.
Michael Moriarty, managing director of HKDL, expressed excitement about launching the donation drive: “Christmas is more than just a celebration; it's a time for reflection and gratitude. At Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, we strive to bring happiness to everyone.”
Moriarty added, “I'm immensely proud and humbled by our team’s dedication to delivering hope and happiness to the community, especially during the festive season, making the world a better place with magic, laughter, and memories.”
Bringing joy and comfort to children’s hospital
Disney magic was also brought to life through parties hosted by the resort's committed Disney VoluntEARS. They threw lovely Christmas parties at various non-profit and educational institutions, including one at Hong Kong Children's Hospital with a “Frozen” theme for over 100 young patients.
A range of fun activities like a lively dance performance featuring Santa Mickey and mini game booths with arts and crafts allowed pediatric patients to take a break from their treatment plans and enjoy their day. Additionally, The Walt Disney Company donated HK$500,000 to the Hong Kong Children's Hospital Charitable Foundation to enhance the hospital’s patient service and experience like organizing art and music programs for patients and families.
Lee Tsz Leung, Hospital Chief Executive of Hong Kong Children's Hospital, thanked HKDL for its support: “We've closely collaborated with HKDL to instill joy and warmth into children's treatment journey, helping to reduce anxiety and uplift the healing experience.”
Help spread Christmas cheer
The resort has promised to donate HK$10 to Make-A-Wish Hong Kong for each transaction made at Tick Tock Toys & Collectibles, the gift shop themed to the kingdom of Arendelle, through January 10. This initiative allows visitors to show their love for the community while combining their Frozen merchandise purchases with charitable support.
HKDL is expanding its support for Operation Santa Claus (OSC) this year. For the first time, HKDL donated OSC six exclusive Duffy and LinaBell plush toys, with their Christmas outfits handcrafted from the same fabric as their attire and packaged in a special box with a certificate. These unique plush toys raised over HK$370,000 for OSC, making them collectible symbols of comfort and hope.
Additionally, HKDL will continue its initiative from 2019 to donate all proceeds from sales of the Holiday Wishes Charity Postcards to OSC without deducting any costs. This ongoing support helps spread holiday cheer to families in need.
