These victories not only brought honour to Hong Kong, but also marked a new milestone for equestrian sport in the city with a first-ever Asian Games team dressage medal.
HKJC Equestrian Team member Jacqueline Siu won the silver medal in the individual dressage event, marking her second appearance on an Asian Games podium after winning gold in Jakarta in the 2018 Asiad. Siu, together with teammates Annie Ho and Samantha Chan, secured the bronze in team dressage. Hong Kong, China fielded the only all-female squad in the competition, with Chan making her Asian Games debut.
Siu was visibly moved to tears after collecting her second medal in Hangzhou. It was the first time she got medal in the team dressage event and she expressed hope that the Asian Games experience would encourage more young people to participate in equestrian sport, and prove that “anything is possible with effort”.
Michael Lee, Chairman of The Hong Kong Jockey Club and President of The Equestrian Federation of Hong Kong, China expressed his happiness in witnessing Hong Kong, China win its first-ever team dressage medal at the Asian Games. The accomplishment is recognition for both the riders and the Club’s professional support teams, which worked extremely hard behind the scenes, he said. It is also a testament to the Club-supported Hong Kong Equestrian Performance Plan, which has built a pipeline of equestrian talent through its youth and children’s squads.
To further support local sports development, The Hong Kong Jockey Club recently extended its sponsorship of the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme, which offers cash rewards to athletes who win medals in major sporting competitions. The award-winning HKJC Equestrian Team and Siu will each receive a cash reward of HK$500,000. Congratulations once again to the HKJC Equestrian Team!
