The news came as New World Development Company Limited announced on Thursday that it has initiated the New World Green Transport Alliance, joining hands with Shell Hong Kong Limited and Sime Darby Motors Group to commit HK$50 million over a three-to-five-year period.
The alliance will install over 100 universal electric vehicle (EV) charging points in Hong Kong from the fourth quarter of 2022 as a founding mission to advocate for a greener lifestyle and scale up electric vehicle usage. Shell and Sime Darby Motors will also collaborate with the New World Ecosystem for an EV rewards program and promotional activities.
Jay Liu, General Manager of the Strategic Alliances of New World Development, said the Green Transport Alliance was initiated to address social needs and commit to a sustainable future, echoing the government's initiatives to enable the broader use of electric vehicles.
"By installing EV infrastructure under [New World Development's] extensive property portfolios, we aim to foster and further green mobility at scale in Hong Kong," said Liu.
According to the group's statement, over 100 hassle-free charging points that are compatible with the majority of EV models in the market will start to be installed from the fourth quarter of 2022, with some points supporting fast charging from 10 percent to 80 percent within 60 minutes.

The charging points will be compatible with the majority of EV models in Hong Kong.
