A patient died yesterday in Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po after eight clogs of tissue were found in his throat.
The cause of death is yet to be confirmed and the hospital has reported the incident to police.
The man, 79, was a patient with chronic diseases. He received treatment in a general medical ward on May 7, and his vitals had been stable with no strange occurrences taking place.
On Monday at around 4.40am, the staff was alerted by the heart monitor attached to the patient. They found the patient stopped breathing and resuscitated him by giving him oxygen. His heartbeat once resumed, yet his situation worsened and he died at noon yesterday.
As medics found tissue in his throat during resuscitation, the hospital reported the incident to the police yesterday. The hospital said they are highly concerned about the incident and have reported it to the Hospital Authority Headquarters.
The case has been passed to the coroner, the hospital added.
The hospital expressed their condolences to the patient’s family and have reported the course of the incident to them. They said the hospital will keep in touch with the family and provide help to them when needed.
