A 63-year-old man died 10 days after receiving his second dose of Sinovac vaccines, the Department of Health announced today.
The Department said that the report by the Hospital Authority did not provide clinical evidence to support that the event was caused by the vaccine.
The case involved a 63-year-old man with a history of hyperlipidaemia. This morning he had a seizure at home, and then a loss of consciousness. He was sent to the Accident and Emergency Department of Kwong Wah Hospital. Resuscitation was performed but in vain, and he passed away the same morning.
Records showed that he received his second dose of Sinovac vaccine at Kowloon Hospital on April 16, ten days before his death. There was also no record that the man complained of feeling unwell during observation.
There is no clinical evidence to indicate that his death was caused by the vaccine, according to the Department, and the case has been referred to the Coroner.
The case was passed to the Expert Committee on Clinical Events Assessment Following Covid-19 Immunisation for conducting a causality assessment as well.
The Department added that up to and including April 18, there were about 1,091,100 doses of Covid-19 vaccines administered in the city. During that period a total of 1,890 reports on adverse event following immunisation were received, including 11 reports of death with vaccination history within 14 days.
The 11 death reports were examined by the Expert Committee. Three cases are concluded no causal relationship with vaccination while the remaining eight are preliminarily considered no association with vaccination.
