The East Rail Line new signaling system and 9-car trains will be launched tomorrow, after completion of all further testings, as well as approvals from relevant Government departments, according to the MTR.
Speaking at a Legco meeting, Chan Lam-sang, Deputy General Manager of the MTR, said the number of 9-car trains will be gradually increased providing services on the East Rail Line, however, they will still deploy 12-car trains during rush hours in the morning during the initial stage.
“There will be multiple measures to help travelers adapt to the new arrangements, including more signs to direct them and more staff deployed to provide instructions,” said Chan.
He also stressed that although they expect the new system to run smoothly after thorough testing, they have an incident response mechanism in place in cases of emergency to lower the impact on travelers.
