Four men accused of clashing with a group of Beijing supporters in Amoy Plaza in Kowloon Bay in 2019 have been given jail terms of 19 months to 20 months respectively at the District Court today.
The defendants in the case are Shek Lang-tin, 30, Lau Yiu-chung, 31, Chan Kai-yin, 35, and Chan Shui-chuen, 35. The four involved in the clash pleaded guilty to unlawful assembly, including one who also admitted to wounding.
The court heard that Shek and other people at the scene allegedly attacked a woman in Phase 2 of Amoy Plaza, which led to scalp and neck injuries and the loss of three teeth.
Also on the same day, Chan Shui-chuen, and a group of people attacked a man for taking pictures of protesters' faces in Phase 1 of Amoy Plaza.
Shek, Lau and Chan Kai-yin allegedly attacked the victims - the man and another woman - as they were leaving the mall.
District Court judge Ernest Lin Kam-hung during today’s hearing again requested observers wearing yellow masks with the words FDNOL printed on them to wear a white mask provided by the court before returning to the hearing.
The acronym FDNOL - for "five demands, not one less," the motto of the anti-government movement - was printed on the yellow masks. The color yellow is also associated with the territory's pro-democracy movement.
Lin said the court is not a place for expressing political demands. He also added that the court has not made any judgments on such demands, stressing the court will make no exceptions no matter what colored masks people are wearing.
Lin earlier on Monday‘s hearing ordered a lawyer and two observers to change the yellow masks they were wearing, telling them they would have to leave the courtroom otherwise.
