First conversion of industrial buildings to transitional housing ready in 2022

Tenants can move into the first transitional housing converted from industrial building in Kwun Tong as early as 2022, Secretary for Transport and Housing Frank Chan Fan said.

Writing in his blog today, he said the HK$61.5 million funds of the first conversion of industrial buildings to transitional housing project has been approved. If everything goes smoothly, some 116 families, involving about 370 people, can move in as early as the first quarter in 2022. The government has also found land to provide about 13,400 transitional housing units.

Chan said the first project is a 10-storey factory building on Hung To Road in Kwun Tong and the conversion is aimed to start in the middle of next year.

After the conversion, the building can be transformed to 116 units including seven two-person units, 78 three-person units, 30 four-person units and one barrier-free unit.
