Twelve Cathay Dragon flights have been canceled today, as the airline flew into its grave after 35 years of history.
Cathay Pacific has announced axing its sister airline Cathay Dragon this morning, sacking all of its 2,500 staffers.
Shortly after the group’s announcement of ceasing Cathay Dragon operations, 12 flights operated by the airline scheduled for today have since been canceled.
In a web conference this afternoon, Cathay Pacific chairman Patrick Healy put the nail into the coffin for Cathay Dragon.
When reporters asked him if there was any chance for the airline to be revived when the economy recovers, he said: “Today will be the end of Cathay Dragon after 35 years of history”.
He said a majority of the air routes operated by the airline will be taken over by Cathay Pacific and HK Express, prior to approval from authorities.
Healy also revealed during the conference that there are currently no plans for the group to sell their non-core businesses in the likes of catering or laundry services.
In view of the canceled flights, Cathay Pacific said all passengers affected will be arranged with new flights, or could opt for a refund.
