A leading travel agency, Hong Thai Travel Services, announced today that it is cancelling all group tours to the mainland over the Lunar New Year period, RTHK reports.
The company said this is to protect the health of its staff and customers, amid the deadly Wuhan virus outbreak.
Some 2,500 travellers will be affected by the cancellations, the agency said.
The tours affected are those that were due to depart between January 25 and February 1.
People whose tours are no longer going ahead can apply for refunds – minus handling fees – or opt to join another tour within the next six months, the firm said.
On Thursday, Cathay Dragon announced that it was cancelling all its flights to Wuhan – the epicentre of the outbreak – until the end of next month.
The MTR Corporation, meanwhile, said it was suspending sales of high-speed train tickets to the Hubei capital, which has been placed on lockdown.
